For drivers in Perth and wider WA, a novated car lease means you can save thousands of dollars on the cost of your vehicle and your ongoing running expenses.
This is because of the significant tax advantages that come with a novated lease compared to buying a car with cash or getting a standard car loan.
A novated lease means you acquire a new or used vehicle through a lease provider and pay for it through regular salary deductions made by your employer.
Here’s how a novated lease can save Perth motorists:
Our Perth-based team of novated lease consultants work with local employers across WA on establishing lease agreements for employees.
They can also help you find the best deal on a new or used car lease in Perth, through our network of local car dealership partners. This can make a big difference when wait times for bringing new vehicles into Perth are particularly long for certain models.
We’ll also help you understand which cars will maximise your savings based on the government incentives available in WA.
The further good news if you’re considering a novated lease in Perth is your vehicle may still be eligible for the WA state government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Rebate Scheme (in addition to the novated lease tax benefits).
In some other states in Australia, novated leases are not eligible for the local EV rebate. But as the WA government explains “the fact that a vehicle is financed through a novated lease will not impact on its eligibility for the rebate”.
WA’s rebate scheme offers $3,500 on new EV purchases with a dutiable value of $70,000 or less. To be eligible, the vehicle must be powered solely by batteries or hydrogen fuel cells that do not emit greenhouse gases. Hybrid vehicles are not eligible for a rebate.
The rebate is being offered for 10,000 eligible vehicles licensed in WA, or for three years following the announcement (Saturday 10 May 2025), whichever comes first.
The WA Department of Transport recommends speaking with your novated leasing company (that’s us) before the vehicle is first licensed to see if the rebate will impact on your leasing agreement.
